Antenatal care varies widely from country to country and this can add to your anxiety about having a baby in a foreign land. Once you know that you are pregnant it is your responsibility to book your first GP appointment.

Most hospitals offer antenatal classes, however, not all offer them in English. Please speak with your midwife or follow the links to the Capital Region Hospitals to see what is offered in your local hospital (some are written only in Danish). Private birth preparation classes are also available with further information below.
Jordemoderhuset – Birth Preparation Class in English - Jordemoderhuset (The Midwives’ House) provides a great one-day birth preparation class for English speaking couples. As well as the usual elements of an antenatal class they put a special focus on the Danish hospital system, traditions and culture in regards of pregnancy, childbirth and the post partum period.
Hypno Birthing – Georgina Brøndal (Florescence) - Using the Mongan Method of Hypno Birthing Georgina can help you to prepare for labour and birth. Classes are taught either in a group or with individual couples.
The schedule and rules for scannings during pregnancy can be found in the document entitled Prenatal Examinations. If you would like a scan out of the normal schedule or a 3d or 4d scan then there are many places which offer private scans. A lot of them offer a "drop-in" service, for which no appointment is needed.
Research shows that exercising during pregnancy leads to many benefits including prevention of back and pelvic pain, increased confidence, and preparation for labour and a quicker postnatal recovery. However, it is important to exercise safely and this is most easily achieved in a class environment with instructors who have knowledge of exercising whilst pregnant.
FitBack and Bumps® - is an exciting new Antenatal Educational Exercise Programme bringing mums-to-be together to share their pregnancy experience. Classes are taught in English in a lovely studio in Nørrebro and one-to-one or small group tuition is also available in your own home. Classes aim to educate mums-to-be with regard to the challenges their bodies face during pregnancy and use pilates type exercises to strengthen their core and reduce back and pelvic pain. Jordemoderhuset – Pregnancy Yoga - This yoga class focuses on postures that can help create an overall feeling of well being, give energy and provide inner peace, both during pregnancy and also during the birth itself. They teach postures and breathing that women can benefit from both during and after childbirth. Classes are taught in both Danish and English.
Jordemoderhuset – Pregnancy Aerobics - This fun class uses a variety of exercise forms including zumba-inspired training that can be modified based on your own level and how far along you are in your pregnancy. You can attend the class from the 14th week of pregnancy and continue right up to delivery. Classes are in both English and Danish.
Thai Bo (in Strøby) - This maternity class is also suitable for women who were exercising prior to becoming pregnant. There is everything you would expect from a normal Thai Bo class plus lots of pelvic floor work. It's a fun way to stay fit, work any frustrations out and chat with other mums and mums to be. Classes are taken in Danish but instructor can speak English.
Having a support network whilst pregnant is very important. It is good to have other mums-to-be with whom you can share your experiences and concerns. There are a few international groups for both bumps and babies and this provides you with the opportunity to find out information from new mums.
LINK Playgroup for All (Bumps and Babies) - Held every Wednesday morning 9.45-11.30 at Hellerup Church Hall, Margrethevej 9, Hellerup. All mums-to-be are welcome to come and enjoy the company of other parents/ mums-to-be. Cost is 30 dkk for LINK members and 40dkk for non-members with coffee provided.
Meet Up - Visit the link to find groups in your area. There are quite a few different Meet Ups for mums and mums-to-be in and around Copenhagen. International Moms in CPH have a regular weekly meet up for bumps and babies in the city.
